Help wanted for JettyLauncher, this time for pay

Openlogic contacted me the other day with the question whether I was interested to join their Expert Community for JettyLauncher (Eclipse plugin for Jetty).

I am not tbh, as I can use every spare minute to work on Teachscape, Wicket, Wicket In Action and maybe even some of the stuff other mortals do in their private life as well. So consider this another call for help. There are still quite a few people using JettyLauncher, and there’s not that much that need to be done (though it’ll take a weekend to do the fixes, test on different versions and deploy etc).

This time, if you sign up for OpenLogic’s expert community, you can earn some money solving JettyLauncher issues. And they told me they have a concrete request outstanding at this moment. So, do you feel your evenings and weekends are a bit empty? Contact OpenLogic and me about working on JettyLauncher.

Terracotta open sourced

It’s old news by now, but last december Terracotta went open source. Great stuff! Terracotta takes a novel approach in clustering in that it provides ‘transparent’ clustering on the JVM level. You can – within some practical limits – cluster anything without needing specific support for it. You don’t need to install a servlet container with HttpSession clustering support for instance; Terracotta should be able to do it for you regardless which container you use. One thing that is great news for developers using Wicket, is that we (Wicket team) briefly worked together with Terracotta to get wicket-examples working on Terracotta. Frankly, I didn’t do a lot other than installing what Orion Letizi already prepared for us; it turned out that setting Terracotta up for Wicket is pretty darn easy! Terracotta is high on the list of Teachscape to use; it’s on the list to investigate soon. Of course, I’ll be happy to share the results in due time.

Oh, and about their reasons for open sourcing? Makes perfect sense to me. It’s the IT variant of focussing on the core bussines. Cut the crap (read marketing), make a great product and give people the best opportunity to use it!
